Lower Southampton Fire Prevention

Saturday, October 11, 2014 12-4pm October is around the corner. Yes, October, the beginning of Fall, the holiday of Halloween, colder weather, leaves changing, the days getting shorter.... But most importantly, October is Fire Prevention and Safety month. If you haven't already, October is your reminder to check/change your smoke detector and batteries. Consider (if you haven't already) purchasing wireless interconnected smoke detectors at your local home improvement store. Check your household fire extinguisher. Is it out of date? Is it placed correctly in the home? Do you need an additional extinguisher for your home? Looking to dispose of them? It's simple. As directed by the Fire Marshall's office, you can recycle an extinguisher as long as it is empty. In order to empty an extinguisher, you must drain the contents into a trash bag (keeps the amount of dust/cloud down). Do this slowly or the bag will rip. It is not harmful to breath in, though you should stay downwind from the nozzle as you empty the contents. It is best to do this outside on a lawn or pavement.

For more tips, reminders and education on Fire Prevention, stop by the Lower Southampton Fire Prevention Day on October 11th, Saturday, from 12-4pm located at the K-MART on Street Rd in Feasterville, Pa. We will have live demonstrations such as car accident scene, K-9 Dog Unit, helicopter landing, Fire Truck rides, house fire prop, fire extinguisher simulator, smoke trailer and much more!! Food and giveaways available to who attend.
