Training for all posibilities

Thursday, May 29, 2014  There have been several articles here about training. There is a very good reason for that, we train ALL the time. While we hope that our services are never needed for an emergency, the truth is that we get called regularly for all types of problems. Tonight's drill (training) was done for several reasons. First, the driver of the apparatus was given the opportunity to run the pump and practice with the controls. While this may not seem like much, if you do not practice, you may forget a step when the real thing happens. Second, the Fire Fighters that attended were able to practice controlling the fire hoses with different types of nozzles and different scenarios. This is also vital to our proper response to a real emergency. In the pictures you will see the Fire Fighters using 2 hoses in tandem to advance towards a Propane Cylinder that is burning from the valve. Using this technique, the Fire Fighters can advance close enough to turn the valve off which would extinguish the fire. The wide spray pattern will dissipate the heat and give them protection while completing this dangerous task. In the end everyone got practice packing up the hose in a "Triple Pack" which is how we store the hose on our apparatus for quicker deployment when they are needed.
