Dow Chemical Plant catches fire

Wednesday, May 16, 2012 5:40 AM  On 16 May 2012 the Lower Southampton Fire Department was dispatched initially to cover for the Pendell Fire Department, station 8, when they were called in to assist with the Dow Chemical plant fire. Rescue 6 rolled to station 8 to help protect their local. Special Service 6 was called to assist in the operation at Dow Chemical at approximately 8:00 AM. A total of 8 members from Station 6 were involved with these 2 apparatus. The fire destroyed several storage silos and spread a noxious odor across the neighborhood and into New Jersey. Eventually the fire was extinguished and all Station 6 members returned home. Unfortunately this was not the case for everyone at the scene, Station 51 lost a long time member, Fire Police Captain David Wintz. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and Department.
