December 23, 2011 at 0837hrs the resident at 20 East Myrtle Ave, Feasterville Pa was home sleeping with her two daughters asleep in their rooms when she heard the smoke alarm sounding.  When she went to investigate, she found smoke in the basement.  She quickly awoke the children and exited the house where she called 911 to report the fire. Lower Southampton Police, Lower Southampton Fire Department, Feasterville Fire Company and Trevose Fire Company responded.  Units arrived and found heavy smoke in the basement. LSFD crews investigated and located an electrical appliance fire (Light, filter and covering unit of a large fish tank).  The fire was quickly extinguished and the crews continued to remove the smoke from the residence.  The cause of this blaze is under investigation by the Lower Southampton Fire Marshal’s office. If smoke detectors were not in place or not operational, the fire would have spread and trapped the sleeping residents in their bedrooms. This could have meant a catastrophic outcome during this Holiday Season. The Lower Southampton Fire Department would like to remind residents that Smoke Detectors do save lives.
